Tower Hamlets Council’s response to GLA press release on South Quay Master Plan

A Tower Hamlets Council spokesperson said:

“The GLA have not ‘intervened’ in the proposed redevelopment at South Quay. As with all significant developments in the borough, South Quay has been determined by the council’s Strategic Development Committee, based on an assessment of the Tower Hamlets Local Plan and other planning guidance to include an overarching vision to improve the quality of life for everyone who lives and works in the borough. The plans were developed in close dialogue with colleagues at the GLA.”

“Tower Hamlets Council is unique in the UK for its outstanding record in delivering high quality, timely and complex housing, commercial and town centre developments. The council is proud of its successful record in working collaboratively with the GLA and other partners to ensure that the wider statutory development plan framework, including the London Plan, is reflected in all developments, as well as the views of our local communities.”

“We will continue to consider the views of our partners in our developments, and look forward to continued constructive and informed discussion about the vision for Tower Hamlets with key development partners.”
