Smog free park, Rotterdam

The world’s first Smog Free Tower opened last Friday in Rotterdam. Dutch designer Daan Roosegaarde and his team of experts are using patented ion technology to build the world’s largest smog vacuum cleaner. The Smog Free Tower produces smog-free bubbles of public space, allowing people to breathe and experience clean air for free. After Rotterdam, the Smog Free Project will travel around the world to cities like Beijing.

As a tangible souvenir of this Smart City, Roosegaarde also creates jewellery made from the collected smog particles. The smog dust filled with carbon is compressed into high-end jewellery like the Smog Free Ring. Each Smog Free Ring supports the cleaning of 1000m3 polluted air. Smog Free Cufflinks are also available. Smog Free Park is not intended as a final solution but as a tactile experience of a clean future. In collaboration with government, NGOs and clean-tech industry, people become part of the solution instead of the problem.

Studio Roosegaarde opened their office in M4H last May. As one of the inner harbours in the city itself, M4H is being transformed by the city of Rotterdam into a national and international site of innovative business in the field of clean tech, medical and food.
