British Airways i360, Brighton

With its new i360 tower, Brighton too will be a city that can be experienced from on high. We believe that like London, Paris or New York, Brighton has amazing panoramas that have yet to be discovered: miles and miles of bright blue sea; the tiny labyrinthine streets of the Lanes; the grand Regency architecture of Hove seafront; the dramatic chalk cliffs at Seven Sisters; the wild expanses of the Downs. No other city has surroundings so varied and so unique.

The Brighton i360 has been designed by husband and wife team, David Marks and Julia Barfield of Marks Barfield Architects, who conceived and designed the London Eye, still the UK’s most popular paid-for attraction 14 years after it opened.

At 162 metres high, and with an observation pod rising to 138 metres, the i360 will be Britain’s highest observation tower outside London – taller even than the London Eye.

The i360 has a slender, elegant design. Sited on the axis of the Grade II* Regency Square, it will make a positive contribution to the Regency Square Conservation Area, adding visual interest and enhancing its character and appearance.

At the foot of the tower will be a publically accessible building with a large beachside cafe/brasserie with seating for more than 400 people (including a beach-side outside deck); exhibition space focused on displaying work by local artists; a shop; and toilet facilities. There will also be a dedicated hospitality suite with rooms available for private events and weddings.
