tp bennett completes refurbishment of former KPMG HQ

Tp bennett has completed the refurbishment of a 155,000 sq ft office building at 8 Salisbury Square in London. The former KPMG headquarters, located in a peaceful pocket behind Fleet Street, has been redesigned to deliver Grade A commercial office space with 6,500 sq ft of terrace space over five floors offering stunning views across London.

tp bennett was appointed by Greycoat Real Estate and Cheyne Capital to remodel the building into office space suitable for the modern occupier. The original building was a typical 1980s postmodern design, 110,000 sq ft of space, with dated window systems, a large atrium and awkward floorplates. Tp bennett’s design took a more consistent and simple approach, using elegant finishes to create an attractive, flexible work space and added 40,000 sq ft of further space.

The large floor plates and ceiling heights of the original building have been exploited to promote open, collaborative working and maximise natural light across all floors. There is a minimum of 2.75m floor to ceiling height with a raised floor system and smart ceilings, integrated with flexible air conditioning and lighting systems.  From the large atrium the team created a double height entrance hall, with various seating areas, feature lighting and a bronze reception desk.

The design has added 37% to the net lettable area, with the creation of a new top floor, and a total of six private roof terraces for use as external amenity space. The office also features 153 cycle spaces, a café/library with informal meeting areas, all fully WIFI enabled.

James Elliott, Director at tp bennett said:

“Working with 1980s buildings is a great opportunity, they provide a strong base for the modern commercial office space, with generous floor plates, ceiling heights and window sizes. The attention to detail on this project was a key factor, we really thought about the demographic of the potential occupier, curating the fixtures & fittings to appeal to both the dynamic midtown media workforce as well as the more traditional corporate and legal industry based in this location. Our creativity as a team, alongside our deep understanding and experience of working with developers and corporate clients alike allows us to take a holistic view with such projects, creating an innovative space that is also sustainable and flexible for the final occupiers’ needs.”
