Crosslane Student Developments secures planning consent for two new purpose-built student accommodation developments

Crosslane Student Developments, part of the Crosslane Group, is pleased to announce that it has secured planning consent to deliver a 307 bed purpose-built student accommodation development on The Kingsway, Swansea and an 83 bed purpose-built student accommodation development on Calton Road, Edinburgh.

Completion of both schemes is due in time for the 2019/20 academic year. Prime Student Living, the student accommodation lettings and operational management arm of Crosslane, will be responsible for the marketing, lettings and management of the completed student accommodations.

The Kingsway site in Swansea is currently a car park and restaurant, situated north-west of the city centre within close proximity to the primary shopping area and the mainline station. The University of Wales Trinity Saint David and the University of Swansea are a short walk and bus ride away, respectively. The new purpose-built, high specification student accommodation scheme will comprise 26 self-contained studio apartments and 281 en-suite cluster flats of between five and nine bedrooms. The property will feature a private landscaped courtyard and significant dedicated communal areas to encourage collaborative working and socialising, which has been zoned to facilitate different uses, such as group study, relaxing, watching TV and an entertainment/games area. The ground floor includes bicycle storage, a reception and management area for resident students, as well as a retail unit fronting onto The Kingsway.

The Calton Road site in Edinburgh which is currently a car valeting business and is located opposite the New Parliament House is a short walk to Edinburgh University’s central campus, the city’s main shopping streets and Edinburgh Waverley train station.  The new purpose-built high specification four storey student accommodation scheme will comprise 80 en-suite studio apartments and three one bedroom flats, with common room, washer/driers, gym, outdoor courtyard and cycle storage. Student residents will benefit from 100 Mbps internet/Wi-Fi speed.

Crosslane has appointed DAY Architectural as the architects for The Kingsway development and JM Architects as the architects for the Calton Road development.

Jon Stewart, Director at Crosslane Student Developments, said:

“Crosslane is delighted to have secured planning consent for two new purpose-built student accommodation developments on Calton Road, Edinburgh and The Kingsway, Swansea. Both schemes are right in the heart of the city centre and within very easy reach of the local universities. At 307 and 83 beds, respectively, they will help to provide efficient solutions to the shortage of quality housing for students in their respective cities.”
